about the athenique institute
Are you considering becoming a licensed esthetician in the State of Washington? Are you already a licensed esthetician in the State of Washington or elsewhere but you want to expand your treatment menu? Are you considering practicing in an allied field that does not require licensing in your state—for example, many states including the State of Washington do not currently license electrologists? If so, the key to your success will be your education. And the key to your education will, in large part, depend on your choice of a school.

Athenique’s founder, Vernell Sutherland, had already had successful careers as an educator, a business executive, and a lawyer when she discovered her true passion: skincare. Vernell developed The Athenique Way™ to address what she believes to be a major gap in the way most estheticians approach the practice of esthetics; specifically, failing to understand the critical importance of continuous learning for both the esthetician and his or her clients. Vernell established the Athenique Institute™ in 2010 when her AgelessSkin clients began asking to be trained in The Athenique Way with the objective of becoming licensed estheticians and owning their own esthetics practices.

The Athenique Institute is a licensed esthetics school in the State of Washington (License No. 2107) and our initial focus was on providing a unique, highly individualized educational experience for men or women who desire to pursue a career in esthetics and need to take the 600-hour course in esthetics required to become a licensed esthetician in the State of Washington. However, practicing estheticians soon began asking Vernell if she could offer additional practice-related classes; for example, the use of state-of-the-art technology in treating anti-aging, adding allied services to their practice such as electrology, or how to improve their marketing programs. The Institute has subsequently added practitioner-focused programs to address many of these needs.
